Nodaway Valley’s seventh grade boys finished 2017 on a high note with five straight wins. The Wolverines outscored their opponents 262-75 in that five-game span.
Nov. 27- Nodaway Valley used a late surge against Mt. Ayr to post a 42-33 win.
Avery Phillippi recorded a double/double for NV with 19 points and 13 rebounds. He also led the team with four steals
“He had a great game against their big players,” said coach Brett Welsch. “He helped neutralize their height advantage.’
Bryce Berlau had 13 points, followed by Doug Berg with six and Boston DeVault and Blake Lund with two points apiece. Berg had three blocked shots, while Lund had two steals.
“This was a good win against a big team,” said Welsch. “We got out rebounded but used a late surge to pull away late.”
Nov. 28- Three players scored in double figures to lead NV to a 48-10 win against MSTM.
Berlau led the Wolverines with 20 points, followed by Lund and Phillippi with 11 and 10 points respectively. Devault added six points, with Berg adding one. Phillippi had four boards, while Berlau had a pair of steals.
Dec. 5- Four players were in double figures as NV destroyed East Union, 71-4. DeVault had 23 points and five steals, with Berlau adding 20 points and four steals. Phillippi’s line included 12 points, six rebounds and four steals. Lund added 10 points.
Berg, Mason Wilson and Gavin Shoemaker had two points each.
Dec. 14- Phillippi, with 16 points, and Berlau, with 15 points, helped propel NV to a 50-19 win against Des Moines Christian. Phillippi also had nine rebounds on the night. DeVault had nine points and five steals. Lund finished with seven points, while Doug Berg finished with three.
Dec. 18- Berlau poured in 24 points to help NV to a 51-9 win against West Central Valley. Phillippi netted seven points, grabbed six boards and came away with three steals. DeVault had six points, six boards and six steals. Berg and Lund also had six points apiece. Berg also had five rebounds. Wilson finished the night with two points and two boards.
