Chuck Johnson


Chuck Johnson, 60, of rural Lenox died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove “Guss” Cemetery, south of Corning. Open visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Charles Alan Johnson, son of Bettie Louise (Jones) Smith and Ralph E. Smith, was born Aug. 14, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri. When Chuck’s mother later married Skippy Lee Johnson, he was adopted by Skippy and his last name was changed to Johnson. Chuck graduated from Creston High School in 1975.  

On Feb. 20, 1976, Chuck married Karen S. Murren in Creston. Chuck worked with the G.E.T. plastic plant in Creston. Later, he worked with Warin Oil, and then at Trolli Candy Company, both in Creston. They moved near Kent in 1997. Chuck began working at S & K Café in 2000.

Chuck is survived by his wife Karen Johnson of Lenox; son Jeremiah Johnson of Creston; daughter Jenifer Johnson of Lenox; grandchildren, Hallie and Lilee Johnson; sisters, Patty (Steve) Richardson of Kansas City, Missouri, Peggy (Steve) George of Vidalia, Georgia, Kimi (Todd) Laabs of Kansas City, Missouri, Cherie (Chris) Gordon of Silver Lake, Kansas, Kalian (Dwayne) Smith of Creston and Sandy (Roy) Parrott of Shannon City; brothers, Mike Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, Owen (Lori) Worstell of Holt, Missouri, Phillip (K’Lea) Johnson of Afton and Sonny Johnson of Reed Springs, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Mike (Jerri) Murren of Lamoni and Duane Murren of Creston; best friend Roy (Nadine) Schrodt of Akron, New York; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, John Murren and Shirley Kleckner.
