Kelly Konkler, 68, of Shannon City died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at his home.
Graveside memorial celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Burial will be in Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Maurice Dunn American Legion Post No. 70. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family. Kelly Joe Konkler, son of Richard Everett Konkler and Norma Mardale (Siddens), was born April 10, 1949, in Creston. He graduated from East Union High School in 1968. After high school, he attended Southwestern Community College. Kelly served his country as a part of the United States Navy.
On Dec. 17, 1971, Kelly married Deborah Lynne Pryor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston. They settled in Creston, where he worked High Line Company traveling for the next few years. They later divorced.
After returning to Creston, Kelly began working for Winterstien Construction doing construction work, and later, for Max Smith as a heavy equipment operator. After his retirement he moved to rural Shannon City.
Kelly was a member of Abate.
Kelly is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Jo Rouh (fiancé Justin Opheim) of Emmetsburg; brothers, Tony (Bobbi) Konkler of Carroll and Kirby Konkler; sisters, Tracy Fredrickson of Thayer, Leslie (Ray) Faris of Albany, Mississippi, and Joey Kugler of Beatrice, Nebraska; and granddaughters, Molly Jo Rouh and Elizabeth Gail Rouh.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and sister Darcy Konkler.
